Eagles to start Jalen Mills at cornerback, Marcus Epps at safety against 49ers | Report - Bleeding Green Nation

The Philadelphia Eagles will be starting Jalen Mills at cornerback and Marcus Epps at safety in their Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers, according to one report:

The Eagles moved Mills to safety in the offseason but they’re very thin at corner right now. With Avonte Maddox out and Trevor Williams placed on injured reserve, the Eagles are down to just Darius Slay, Cre’Von LeBlanc, and Nickell Robey-Coleman. And since Strap and NRC usual play in the slot, the Eagles are opting to use Mills on the outside instead.

Mills obviously has plenty experience playing corner, so there’s that. But we all know he’s susceptible to getting beat out there so it could be an issue for the Eagles in this game.

As for Epps starting in place of Mills, you might be surprised that the Eagles aren’t going with K’Von Wallace instead. There’s certainly an argument that Wallace should be playing but the coaching staff clearly trusts Epps more. Epps has played 27 defensive snaps this year to Wallace’s seven this season.

The Eagles’ defense figures to have their hands full tonight as they go up against a Kyle Shanhan offense averaging 29 points per game.
