INDIANAPOLIS -- Columnist Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle joined me on Monday for a 1-on-1 interview in front of the Oregon State-Houston Elite Eight game.
Listen to the full interview with Smith here.
“Houston should win this game,” Smith said. “Houston should win this game and be in the Final Four and put their stamp on this season... if they lose this game it will bring back everything that Houston fans will struggle with.”
On Houston’s personnel:
“They don’t have anybody who is single-handedly dominant. They’re a true team... they’re a unique team. They’re like a team from the 1980s. They shoot the three. They like to go up-tempo, but don’t have to... but they don’t have the star who is going to be a lottery pick.”
On Kelvin Sampson’s tenure at UH:
“He chose to rebuild a program that had horrendous facilities... they were getting 1,000 people at a rundown gym... his kids stay, his kids play hard for him. He’s truly created a family environment.”
