Britain’s leader is no longer a bachelor.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tied the knot with fiancée Carrie Symonds in a hush-hush ceremony on Saturday, according to local reports.
The secret nuptials were held at Westminster Cathedral in London, in front of family and friends, said UK newspapers The Sun and Mail on Sunday.
Thirty guests were on hand for the Catholic ceremony, which is the maximum number of people allowed to congregate under England’s COVID-19 restrictions, the Mail reported.
The event was so classified, even Johnson’s own aides were in the dark, according to The Sun.
Johnson, 56, and 33-year-old Symonds, an environmental campaigner, were first linked two years ago, when Johnson was still married to his second wife.
They announced their engagement in February 2020 and have a son together, 1-year-old Wilfred.
The marriage would be Symonds’ first and Johnson’s third. He has at least five other children from previous relationships.
The PM’s office declined to comment to the tabloids, but several UK dignitaries sent their well-wishes to the newlyweds over social media.
Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster tweeted: “Huge congratulations to Boris Johnson & Carrie Symonds on your wedding today.”
The last British prime minister to marry in office was Lord Liverpool in 1822.
