After a stretch of dominance by some of the NFL’s top-tier teams, it’s been all about the underdogs as of late. In just the past two weeks, 20 underdogs have covered against the spread with 15 of those wins of the outright variety. That’s definitely one way to close out the first half of the 2021 season. This past week, Denver and Jacksonville both won outright after closing as double-digit point underdogs while Tennessee has now won outright in four consecutive games. As you might imagine, this recent influx of upsets has managed to make the playoff picture a whole lot more interesting, too. Take a quick glance at how both conferences look at the season’s midpoint.
AFC
Titans 7-2
Ravens 6-2
Chargers 5-3
Bills 5-3
Raiders 5-3
Steelers 5-3
Patriots 5-4
NFC
Cardinals 8-1
Packers 7-2
Buccaneers 6-2
Cowboys 6-2
Rams 7-2
Saints 5-3
Falcons 4-4
We’ve also got some of the most interesting betting data from Week 9:
Underdogs have now posted winning records in consecutive weeks after playing below .500 from Weeks 4-7. Last week, underdogs were 10-4 against the spread. But once again, they did a whole lot more than cover.
