Malala Yousafzai announces marriage to partner Asser Malik - New York Post

The world’s youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzai, has tied the knot almost a decade after a Taliban gunman boarded her school bus and shot her in the head.

The global icon for women’s rights, 24, took to social media Tuesday to announce her marriage to partner Asser Malik.

The intimate Muslim marriage ceremony was held at her home in Birmingham, England.

“Today marks a precious day in my life,” Yousafzai captioned the photos.

“Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life.

“Please send us your prayers.

“We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”

Yousafzai wore a pale pink Islamic bridal dress, which was complemented by the groom’s pale pink tie.

The newlyweds posed for photos while signing their marital contract and outdoors among fall foliage.

News of the marriage was met with hearty congratulations from Yousafzai’s high profile fans, including former first daughter Chelsea Clinton, actress Reese Witherspoon and fellow activist Greta Thunberg.

“Congratulations on this wonderful moment!,” Witherspoon commented.

Just five months ago the University of Oxford graduate revealed doubts about whether she would ever wed.

Yousafzai — who survived an assassination attempt by Taliban at the age of 15 for championing girls’ right to an education — told British “Vogue” in July she didn’t understand the importance of marriage.

“I still don’t understand why people have to get married,” she told British Vogue.

The Nobel peace prize winner previously said in an interview that she didn't "understand" marriage.

“If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?’

“My mum is like… ‘Don’t you dare say anything like that! You have to get married, marriage is beautiful.’”

Groom Asser Malik is understood to be the general manager of high performance for the Pakistan Cricket Board.
